DRIVE FOR DREAMS UPDATE

Four years ago, the EWGA Foundation launched an outreach program called, Drive for Dreams, to share our good fortune with those less fortunate through contributions of golf equipment and othe resources needed to 'Give the Gift of Golf'.  The first fundraising campaign under this initiative was introduced in the Fall of 2007 and donations collected were earmarked to benefit a girls golf school run by Kenya's only female golf professional, Rose Naliaka.

At the 2007 EWGA conference in Amelia Island, FL, conference attendees met Rose and heard firsthand how she uses the game of golf to teach life lessons to girls who would otherwise lead a minimal existence in a country where the average life expectancy is only 47 years of age. Our first club collection was a huge success and EWGA members can feel very proud of the impact their generous contributions have had on Rose's girls.  Rose is still active with her girls golf school in Kenya and she recently took six girls in the program to play in a golf tournament in Mombasa.  "The EWGA Foundation 'Drive For Dreams' opened up a window of opportunity for us and we continue to shine!" Naliaka said.

Since that first campaign in support of Rose Naliaka's girls golf program, the EWGA Foundation Drive for Dreams initiative has benefited a girls golf program in East Canton Ohio run by former LPGA Player Renee Powell, as well as two PGA of America-inspired player development programs serving our nation's injured veterans, G.I.V.E. (Golf for Injured Veteran's Everywhere) and SMGA (Salute Military Golf Association).

Our Community

The EWGA Foundation’s Women On Par® Scholarships Are Changing Lives, Communities

Few gifts make a greater impact than the gift of education.  Particularly in today’s tough economic climate, many are finding that education, or lack thereof, is what’s standing between them and their goals.

In 2007, the EWGA Foundation established the Women On Par® Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance to women ages 30 and older interested in beginning or completing their undergraduate college education.  The scholarship is designed to help women get 'on par' with their peers and better themselves, both personally and professionally.  Since inception, the scholarship program has helped a half dozen women realize their dreams.

“Milton Berle once said:  If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.

Education is my door and I thank you for helping me build it!!”  ~ Marilyn Bunag

Meet 2010 scholarship award recipient Marilyn Bunag of San Francisco, CA.  Marilyn, a single mom of four, has kept in touch with us since winning her scholarship.  Earlier this year, she wrote in a thank you note, “My first semester at San Francisco State University was everything I had hoped for and more…My classes were challenging and my professors were amazing!  I earned A’s in all my classes, making it on the Dean’s List.  A new semester is now underway – which means I’m another step closer in achieving my goals…to rise above poverty and help others.”

Since the program was launched, the EWGA Foundation has awarded Women On Par® scholarships to these deserving women:

  • Kristine Deckinga, Chicago, IL (2011)
  • Angela Traynor, Annapolis, MD (2011)
  • Carla Beu, Smiths Grove, KY (2010)
  • Marilyn Bunag, San Francisco, CA (2010)
  • Angela Hagler, Danville, IN (2009)
  • Jean Bolger, Lehigh, FL (2008)
