2012 Dust Off Your Clubs

Our "Dust off Your Clubs" event was held on Saturday, March 31st at Glen Garden Golf & Country Club.

There were 36 golfers who played a Three-Leaf Clover consisting of best ball, alternate shot and scramble. There were prizes for straightest drive, longest drive and closest to the pin for the men and women.

Winners included Kurt Brunen, Cameron Bennett, Craig Bonner, Diann Goodman, Rebecca Conerty, Tammy Tips and Marlo Mendel. Thanks to everyone for coming out to play!!

2012 Split Rail

Our April event was held on Saturday, April 28th at Split Rail Links & Golf Club in Aledo. We had 20 participants.

The low gross winners were Astrid Bradley, Tara Dubose, Jan Marsell, Diann Goodman, Gai Puwakul and Reah Reedy.

Winners of the 50/50 drawing were Astrid Bradley and Ann Putnam. Great job gals!

2012 Kickoff Event

The Best part of the Kick off was that our Chapter gained 9 new members from the event!  Thank you to all of our new members and we look forward to getting to know everyone!

Lone Star Cup 2011

The 10th annual Lone Star Cup was held at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose, Texas, November 2nd - 5th, 2011. Glen Rose, Texas, rolled out the red carpet for Lone Star Cup X, and the tournament was a rousing success.

For those who don't know, Lone Star Cup is a two-day match play tournament between all our section's chapters of EWGA.  This year there were teams from Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and a hybrid team that was part Central Arkansas and part at-large.  Houston won the cup for a third straight year, and our Fort Worth team came in a strong second - - again, for the third straight year!  It was a great time, and after a 1 1/2 hour frost delay on Friday, the weather couldn't have been better.  The courses at Squaw Valley were in fantastic condition, and the Holiday Inn Express rolled out the red carpet for us.

World Amateur Tournament 2011

Two Fort Worth EWGA chapter members recently attended the World Amateur Championship Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, August 29-September 2.  Gretchen Clerc and Bonnie Hair are pictured at the EWGA booth at the celebrated 19th Hole and Expo with a number of other EWGA members who participated in the four-day event.  Needless to say, a little thing like a hurricane would not keep EWGA from a golf opportunity!

The second annual DFW Unites joint event with the Dallas and Fort Worth EWGA chapters was held Sunday, August 21, at Cowboys Golf Club.  There were a total of 44 participants, with 18 from our Ft. Worth chapter.  The course was in immaculate condition, as it always is.  It was a real treat to actually have grass on the fairways to hit from!  It was hot, of course, but we got an early start, with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun, so it wasn't unbearable.
 
The format was a four-person best ball.  Cindy Simmons continued her winning ways on the course this summer by being on the first place team that came in at 20 under par, and Diann Goodman's team finished in second place with 17 under.  Congratulations, Cindy and Diann.  One of our new members, Linda Carter, attended her first event with us and had the opportunity to meet a lot of our members.  Linda has recently moved to Arlington from Raleigh, NC, where she was a member of EWGA.  Welcome, Linda, and we hope to see you again soon.
 
For those of you who haven't played in this event, you should really try to do it next  year, as it is a great time and a wonderful opportunity to meet and commune with our sister chapter in Dallas.  All food and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the price, so we definitely get our money's worth.
Be sure and register for our Rally for the Cure event, being held Sunday, September 18, at Great Southwest Golf Club.  Say cool and hit 'em straight!

LoneStar Cup

If you haven't ever participated in Lone Star Cup, you have missed out on a lot of fun. Sign up for the qualifying rounds this year and help Ft. Worth bring home the Cup!

2011 Spring Kick Off

A fun day and evening were in store for our annual Spring Kick Off. The day started with 9 holes of golf at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, followed by an evening of food, prizes and LOADS OF FUN!

The Board of Directors each spoke about what's in store for the coming year, so stay tuned to find out!

Dust Off Your Clubs!

Thirty-seven members and guests came to Pecan Valley Saturday, February 26, to kick off our golf season. We started off with a great clinic conducted by David Fowler, acting Head Pro at Pecan Valley, and Nancy Bunton, Director of Golf for the City of Fort Worth.

We then had a shotgun start on the River Course for a fun play round of golf. Some played stroke. Some played scramble. It was really all set up simply to get out, enjoy the 70+ degree weather and sunshine (and each other's company, of course) and start to ramp up for all the golf we have coming over the next few months.

Several of our new members attended, and we want to say again how glad we are that they have joined our group.

SafeHaven Event 2011

Thirty players came to our first "giving back" event of the season at Tierra Verde on Saturday benefitting Safe Haven of Tarrant County, an organization that works to change the lives of women and children affected by domestic violence. The weather cooperated beautifully, and Steve Fox and the others at Tierra Verde could not have been more hospitable. Our members were super generous, and we amassed a huge pile of toiletries, towels, and tee shirts for Safe Haven. We were glad to have one new member, Alexis Chaisson, attend her first event with us, and Gwen Jones brought a guest, Debbie Deaton, who we hope had a good time and might join us again.

Cindy Campbell won the prize for closest to the pin on hole #3, and Susan Van Riper and Bonnie Hair, one of our new members this year,were paired together in our blind draw and won the prize for combined low net. Jeanne Green won a round of golf for two at Tierra Verde just for registering in advance online.

Tour 18 Joint Event with Dallas & Austin

Twenty of our Ft. Worth members joined up with Austin and Dallas on Saturday, 3/26, at Tour 18 in Flower Mound for an afternoon of golf.  The course was tough, but everyone had a great time mixing with our sisters from the south and east.  There were a total of 56 players, and it was so much fun, there is talk about making it an annual event.....but not at Tour 18 again!  It really is fun to play with people from other chapters and get to know them better, and Cheri Hisaw from Austin did a great job mixing the chapters together in the pairings.
 
Ft. Worth was well represented in the winners bracket, with the team of Tara Dubose, Tracy Huber(Dallas Chapter), Tracy's husband, and Cheri Hisaw (Austin Chapter) winning low gross in the 4-person best ball.  Susan Van Riper stuck her tee shot about six feet away from a really scary pin placement on hole #9 to win the prize for Closest to the Pin.
 
Thank you to all who participated.  Since Austin was coming to our home, it was really important that Ft. Worth have good representation, which we did.  For those who weren't able to attend, you missed a fun time and hopefully you'll make it when we do it again next year.
