2012 San Diego Virtual League

Welcome to the 2012 EWGA San Diego Chapter’s 2nd annual Virtual League.  Our virtual league is aimed at providing our members a chance to play competitive golf in a fun environment.  Players will compete within 2 flights based on their handicaps. The program is designed to help new and veteran golfers play in a slightly competitive, yet friendly environment.

Players of all skill levels are welcome.  To be eligible, you simply need to have an established 18 hole handicap of less than 40.  As part of your EWGA membership you have free online access to our handicap system called Golf Life Management System (GLMS).  Our local Handicap Chair, Dorothea, can assist you with any questions.  Email her at handicap@ewga-sd.org.

You will be required to maintain a handicap participate in this league either through EWGA or another local handicap service.  To be eligible for year-end prizes, you will be required to play a minimum of five of the total San Diego stroke play long course events throughout the season plus one short course event.  Once you sign up for the Virtual League, you are eligible to start the friendly competition.  You will need to register separately for each long-course event.  Watch our website for our 2012 events schedule

  • Virtual league participants will be required to register and pay for each individual event they play during the season
  • Our competition will consist of two flights.
  • Scoring will be cumulative for the 5 long-course rounds plus a 5 stroke credit for playing the short-course event; winners will be awarded based on the lowest cumulative net score for all 5 long-course rounds minus the 5 stroke credit.  If you play more than 5 rounds, your score will be based on the best net scores for 5 of your total long-course rounds.
  • First, second, and third place will be awarded in each flight based on the LOWEST cumulative total for the five rounds
  • Always be prepared to play ready golf.  As safety permits, play ready golf from tee to green.
  • To maintain pace of play, please pick up at 10 strokes and mark you scorecard appropriately

Please make sure you turn in your scorecard and ensure that you complete your score for all 18 holes – Write legibly as all scores are double checked before scoring is completed.

Virtual League FAQs

FY12 EWGA San Diego Virtual League

Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

How do I sign up to participate in the league?

Register on Constant Contact.  The cost of the league for the season is a one-time charge of $20.  This will enable us to purchase prizes for league winners.

Which events are eligible for league play?

All long course events will have a game assigned to it except chapter championship, any match play event and other non-stroke events (e.g. a scramble).

How do I know what game is being played at each event

You will receive an email 1-2 days prior to each long course event with the name of the game.  We will rotate through each of the games throughout the season.

What do I do with my scorecard after finishing the round?

First, keep a separate scorecard for the virtual league game from any other scorecards the event captain is asking you to keep and turn in.

To complete your game scorecard:

  • Mark it with the name of the Game.
  • After completing the game, sign the scorecard and have one of your playing partners sign the scorecard to validate your score
  • Turn it into the Event Captain.  (Event captains will mail all cards to the League Coordinator)

What do I do if I miss one of the events, is there a “make-up” opportunity?

Because of the structure of the Virtual League, you only need to play 5 total long course events throughout the year PLUS one short-course event.  If you miss one game, you simply need to attend a different long course event and play the game for that event.

You MUST play a total of 5 long-course games during the year, but with 2 long course events most months, it should not be an issue.  In addition, you MUST play 1 short-course event out of 5-6 per year.

Can I join the league after it has started?

Yes, you can join the league anytime throughout the year as long as there are 5 remaining long-course events and one short-course event.  You will see the Virtual League event on the website through August.  Ending registration in August should give everyone a chance to complete their rounds

What if I am playing in a Virtual League event and I am having a horrible round?

No Worries!  Complete you scorecard and turn it in to the event captain.  You will have another chance.  Remember, we will take the lowest net score for 5 long-course game rounds to make your cumulative score
