Remember the Polaroid camera? It was the first instant
gratification medium in photography. It was introduced in 1947
and it took 34 years before the next big leap to occur. Sony introduced the
Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) digital camera for public use in 1981.
The Mavica was unique in that images were stored on a floppy disc inside
the camera. In 2008, Apple introduced the first iPhone. From there, the
era of selfies began and photography hasn't been the same since.
Instagram is a popular social community based around pictures. We
discussed downloading the Instagram app last week. This week, how do you

Photo will take a picture instantly (without having to open the camera icon). To take a picture, tap . To switch between front and rear-facing cameras, tap and to turn the flash on or off, tap . The last option is to create a video. It uses the same options as the photo. Prior to last week, video lengths were 15 seconds. With the new Instagram upgrade, 1 minute videos can be created.
Once you have chosen your image, choose Next at the top of the screen. This brings you to a screen with three different options.
Filters (or effects), Lux or Tools. Filters There are 41 different filters that can be used on Instagram, each with a uniquly different name (dogpatch, brooklyn, valencia, etc.). Play with them to find the one that is perfect for your photo. If you click on Manage (at the end of the filters list) you can add or remove filters from your list. Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and bringing out
details you couldn't see before. Once you've taken a photo or uploaded a
saved photo from your phone, just tap the sun symbol in the camera view to turn Lux on. Finally, the tools icon opens up many different options: adjust, brightness, contrast, structure, warmth, saturation, color, fade, highlights, shadows, vignette, tilt shift, and sharpen. To find out a more in depth dive into these tools, follow this link.
When you have edited your photo to your liking, tap Next on top of screen.
