A Message from the President

President's Tee Box

Dear EWGA Members and Friends,

As we reach the midpoint in our golf season here in Kentucky and Indiana, it is easy to get complacent about golf course safety and etiquette.  There are lots of ways to get injured on the golf course so here are some helpful hints:

Awareness is the number one priority to avoid injury on the golf course.

Be aware of who is around you before approaching your ball on the fairway.  You don't want to get too far forward and risk being hit by a ball.  According to Golf Digest, each year 40,000 golfers are taken to emergency rooms after being injured on the course - most by golf balls and flying clubheads.

Even you think you are out of the way, check with your playing partners just to be sure.  Look around and ask, "Am I in your way?"  I never know where my ball is going to go, so it is usually better to be behind me rather than in front - even if you are off to the side.

Also, be aware of who is around you when swinging the club.  Make sure no one else is close by or walking into your swing.

Golf and push cart etiquette is important for safety, maintaining pace of play and protecting the golf course.  EWGA recently published an article outlining some basic etiquette and safety rules.  You want to operate a cart with safety in mind.  Limit the use to two passengers - don't try to fit three people in the seat or let someone stand on the back by the golf clubs.  Resist the urge to hang legs and feet outside the cart - some golfers have suffered broken ankles and legs from hanging legs and feet outside the cart.

Looking forward to seeing you on the golf course.  Let's be careful out there!

Chapter News

As you know we have an end of the season banquet every year and present the league awards.  While the banquet is meant to be a close-out to the year for everyone, most of the attendees are those who played in leagues.  And, lots of times the same people win league awards every year.

In order to expand recognition to everyone who participates in EWGA events, we created a Participation Card for 2017.  We've been distributing the cards at events and at Leagues.  The card (displayed above) has spaces to check your event attendance (getting a board member or league captain to confirm your presence).  When the card is completely filled in, turn it into a board member and you will be placed in a drawing for a $100 gift card at the end of the year banquet.  Cards have to be turned in at the beginning of October and the number of events you participated in determine the number of times your name will be placed in the drawing.

If you haven't received your participation card send an e-mail to Carol Ormay or Kathy Latham and they'll get one to you.
