Memorial Day denotes the beginning of summer vacation for kids. You have summer camp and other activities lined up for them. They have been taught from an early age to beware of strangers. But how do you protect them from their trusted friend…the online world? Don’t get me wrong, the Internet is a great tool. Today, kids use the Internet with an ease that is enviable. However, with all the openness of the Internet comes danger, too. What danger? There are predators lurking. They come in various forms, from cyberbullying to App scams. Each has its own set of issues. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Mean...

I t finally happened. David beat Goliath. Twitter has been a stickler for the 140 character restriction. During that time, they have added photo, video, polling. This is great, but those enhancements also took away from your character count. Just announced this morning, Twitter is changing the rules. They are giving more character room to tweet. When replying to a Tweet, @names will no longer count toward the 140-character count. Attachments like photos, GIFs, videos, polls, or Quote Tweets won't count as characters. T he Retweet button is being re-vamped. You can Retweet or Quote Tweet yourself...

Remember the Polaroid camera? It was the first instant gratification medium in photography. It was introduced in 1947 and it took 34 years before the next big leap to occur. Sony introduced the Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) digital camera for public use in 1981. The Mavica was unique in that images were stored on a floppy disc inside the camera. In 2008, Apple introduced the first iPhone. From there, the era of selfies began and photography hasn't been the same since. Instagram is a popular social community based around pictures. We discussed downloading the Instagram app last week. This week, how do you upload a picture on the app. First,...

90% of the people that use social media are lurkers. Does that mean you have a digital stalker? Well, yes and no. They are interested in what you post, however, they don’t necessarily post a reply (or like) your post. This is known as the “90-9-1 rule.” What does this mean in plain English? 90% of the users of social media are lurkers (or un-detected users). 9% are content contributors. They don’t necessarily create their own content, but they share, like, or comment on posts created by others. The final 1% are content creators (also known as power users). They create content that is shared by others as well as like posts created by others and...

Make sure you download the Vine app, then - when you open the Vine app you are given a group of 6 second Videos to view. After each video, there are three icons for your input. A heart (similar to Facebook’s “Like Button”) A comment button (to add your thoughts about this video) A share (or re-vine) button to share this video with others. The Vine console is quite simple (hint: They are owned by Twitter). There are 5 icons on the bottom of the screen. Home – return to the Home screen...

The world of social media has new mediums introduced all the time. One of these mediums that’s been around since 2012 is Vine. What is Vine? It is the ADHD of the video world. The average length of a YouTube video is 4.4 minutes. By comparison, a Vine video is 6 seconds long. So boredom doesn’t last long for this platform. Sas of December 31, 2015 it had 200 million active users. Why is it so popular? In our abbreviated world, 6 seconds can be an eternity. Here's what you need to create a Vine video: ) A camera phone ) T he Vine app ) A Twitter Account or Email Address ) An idea What kind of...

Wherever you travel, you have a friend ready to golf. For instructions on how to update your online profile, refer to last month's blog post " I Love My Golf Profile ." This month's rules are exactly the same. Update your profile and you will be "in the mix" for this month's contest. Congratulations to Lisa G. from...

Why Become a DA?

Be the first person to like this.
The call to action has been in the past month's EWGA Connections Newsletter. Become an EWGA DA. The first questions that come to mind are, what is a DA and why should you become one? "DA" is our acronym for Digital Ambassador. This volunteer position was created last year to help spread the word about EWGA through social media channels. It's as simple as sharing information about EWGA’s programs and news items using the various social media tools you already access on a daily basis: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Do you go through withdrawal if you don't have your phone/tablet or laptop with you 24/7? Do you live on social media anxiously awaiting...

Why should I update my EWGA profile? EWGA is more than your local golf league, it is a nationwide network of women with a passion for golf. Expand your connections outside of your golf foursome with EWGA members from across the nation. As an added bonus, during the month of February, members updating their EWGA profiles will be entered into a weekly contest for prizes. So jump in, the water is fine! Where is your EWGA profile? It can be found in the Member Clubhouse. How do you get there? Go to ewga.com, click on the “Sign In” button in the upper right hand corner. This will bring you to a login page (if you aren’t already logged in)....
