Welcome to EWGA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter

WELCOME

Welcome to the website for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA). EWGA is a national organization of 11,000 members in cities across the U.S. Our chapter consists of 100 members from all over the Bay Area, from San Francisco to Carmel and from the East Bay to the Peninsula.

We offer a wide range of events all over the Bay Area for women; for the beginning golfer, the experienced competitor and those in between. We typically have 2 events per month at a variety of great courses, you can sign up for the ones you want to play and guests are welcome. For those who like to compete, we offer NCGA Associate Club events, team match play tournaments and regional competition leading to EWGA National Events.

EWGA is about fun, friendship, opportunities to play golf and skill development. We hope that renewing members, and new ones, will take full advantage of all that EWGA has to offer.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • San Francisco Bay Area Chapter Wins 2017 Cal Cup!

Eleven California EWGA Chapters met at Indian Wells Golf Resort on May 6 & 7 to play for the 11th Annual Cal Cup. The first day is team play: 3 teams play alternate shot and 3 play best ball. On Saturday our team won 3 matches and split one for a total of 3.5 points. Sacramento took down 5 points for the lead after the first day. We were in fourth place. We knew we had a chance at that point but not easy to pull off.

Sunday with singles is the harder day – each player is on their own without the comfort of their team member in the cart. In the end our team won eleven matches and split one for a half point. There are twelve different stories for each of these matches. Many were close the whole match and most went 17 or 18 holes. That split match was the result of amazing golf performances. Laurie Smith shot a 78 and her opponent at 77 to halve the match. (The slope on the course we played in 128 just to let you know how fabulous this match played.) No team in the eleven year history of Cal Cup has earned 11.5 points out of 12 on the final day. The total of 15 points is also a record. Second place was at 12 which many years would be a winner. To say we took the tournament by storm is an understatement.

Our chapter fielded a very strong team. In March we held two qualifiers to decide on the team.

    Alternate Shot Partners:
    Stacey Baba and Lorie Hirahara
    Laurie Smith and Maureen Murray
Julie McEntee and Judy Owen (captain)

    Best Ball Partners:
    Jeanette Chang and Lynn Kobatake
    Alicia Sinclair and Judy Madden
    Tanya Boysen and Christine Lee

These twelve golfer played with grit and talent to win all of those matches. The Chapter should be very proud. We will bring the trophy to one or two events so you and all see it in person. I must say it is a significant trophy.

    Judy Owen
